Stagnone Natural Reserve in Marsala is a site of exceptional beauty
One of the most captivating natural attractions in the region is the Stagnone Islands Nature Reserve. This reserve was established to protect a remarkable natural environment, comprising a vast lagoon encircled by stunning salt flats steeped in a history spanning millennia. The picturesque presence of windmills and expansive saltwater mirrors sets the stage for breathtaking sunsets. Situated between Capo Lilibeo and San Teodoro lie the secluded islets of Schola, Santa Maria, and San Pantaleo, where the Phoenicians once established the city of Mozia. The Isola Grande serves as a formidable natural barrier, separating the lagoon waters from the sea.
overview of marsala
Marsala, a prominent city in the province of Trapani, is renowned for its fortified wine and historically known for the pivotal event of Garibaldi's Thousand landing. This event marked a significant occurrence during the "Risorgimento" period from 1860 to 1861. In this historical event, a thousand volunteers, led by Giuseppe Garibaldi, departed from Quarto during the night of May 5th to 6th, bound for Sicily with the objective of toppling the Bourbon government that governed the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. On May 11, 1860, the arrival of the Thousand and Garibaldi in Marsala marked the initiation of the Italian unification process.
